Agency carries out institutional and specialized (by distinct programmes) accreditation of higher education institutions in accordance with the Mission Statement of IQAA, The Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan “Concerning Education” and normative documents of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The agency also specializes in ranking of higher education institutions. Methodology of ranking was approved by the International Group of Experts in ranking (IREG) in October 2007, on the conference in Shanghai university.

In international practice, assessment of activity of higher education institutions is carried out by independent quality assurance agencies. In accordance with these guidelines, in 2008, IQAA was established. IQAA conducted the ranking of higher education institutions of the Republic of Kazakhstan for 2008 at the request of the Association of Higher Education Institutions of the Republic of Kazakhstan. At the moment, IQAA has started the accreditation of higher education institutions of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
